Tackling Tough cases.

Providing creative and sound advice.

Pushing forward against the odds.

Employment/Labour Law and HUMAN RIghts

Our practice focuses on employment and human rights litigation, for employees and employers alike.

We provide pragmatic advice on matters involving discrimination, disability accommodation, shareholder oppression incidental to employment, misuse of confidential information, restrictive covenants, copyright and trademark disputes, and insurance issues arising in the workplace. We act for clients subject to the Canada Labour Code and the Employment Standards Act, 2000, and for parties not subject to either.

A strong foundation in labour law, built over three years of acting for federal and provincial unions in the public and private sectors, informs our advice to clients, as they navigate the complex jurisdictional environment surrounding the collective agreement, in the context of grievance arbitration, duty of fair representation complaints, or disputes with insurers over the denial of long-term disability benefits.

Civil Litigation

We fearlessly represent clients in contractual disputes before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, including those involving insured interests and multiple parties. Our expertise extends to claims alleging professional negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, shareholder oppression, breach of confidence, passing-off/trademark infringement, and other anticompetitive behavior. Whether the matter requires a trial, an appeal, or a complex motion for Anton Piller or Mareva relief, we’ll push it forward with preparation and grit.

 Administrative and Public Law

We act in applications for judicial review before the Federal Court of Appeal and the Ontario Divisional Court, and for clients dealing with professional regulation issues, including license renewal or revocation, investigations into misconduct, and enforcement action. We also represent clients in administrative proceedings before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and the appellate bodies of schools, colleges, and universities.

Whether it involves contesting a public official’s improper exercise of discretion, unfair decision-making, or breach of your fundamental rights, we’re here to assist you.
